Long Time No Blog

Hello again! It has so long since I've posted! I've had some busy weeks and now that I have a minute I think it is about time for an update!

Finals went better than I expected, which was awesome! I am just glad that this semester is over and gone! It was tough. Just for your information, out of $300+ spent on books I received a measly $42 back. Lovely.

Great Harvest is really busy during the Christmas season, therefore I will be crazy up until Christmas. I am going to be working 12 hours a day, 6 days a week starting tomorrow! Wish me luck... Ho Ho Ho!

Elder Penman sent me an early Christmas present! It was a beanie and scarf that he crocheted himself! I was about to pass out when I got the package I was so happy. His first companion Elder Clyde taught him how to crochet, so I suspect he had been working on this present for a while! ALSO! Today is the seventh month mark for Elder Penman being out on his mission! Is that awesome or what? I think it is.

I hope you enjoyed this little update and I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

A Day for Celebration!!

Elder Ryan John Penman has been gone for SIX MONTHS! That is 1/4 of his mission done already! I am so happy that he is serving in Spokane. He loves it and is the happiest he has ever been. It really is fun to write letters and hear great stories of people he meets. I know he is doing what he needs to be doing right now, and he will be blessed because of his choice to serve a mission.

7 Weird and Random Facts

I think this tag was just what the doctor ordered Brandy! Thanks :)

  1. I can't handle scary movies. I used to enjoy them but something snapped after I saw the movie The Ring.

  2. I have never been on an airplane. I'm thinking my first airplane ride will probably be on my honeymoon.

  3. I was in a freak horse accident. Girls camp o5 I was riding Jorge and he got spooked and blitzed up a mountain with me clinging to his side. Fortunately all that happened was a bruised foot and broken toe. Some say after everything happened they couldn't recognize me because my face was covered in dirt from when I face planted. :)

  4. Shia Leboeuf is my celebrity crush. Ever since he was in the Disney series Even Stevens, I have loved this goofball.

  5. I have played the piano for approximately 12 years. I can't believe it has been this long, but I began lessons at the age of 8. I stopped lessons after high school, but I still play for fun and for primary.

  6. I hate the feeling of powdered sugar. Seriously. I make cream cheese frosting at work and when I have to reach into that bucket full of powdered sugar to grab the scoop it gets me every time.

  7. I could eat a corn dog everyday. I don't know when this fetish started, but I love crispy, hot corn dogs dipped in fry sauce. MMM...

Now I tag 7 of my peeps- Julia, Mom, Leesa, Shelly, Megan, Lindsey, and Melissa. (If you wanna!)

"Ponytails are for Grills."

No that is not a type-o. That is what Kaleb told me last Saturday when I begged to play with his beautiful hair. "Grill" means "girl" in Kaleb talk.

P.S. There were approximately four ponytails on his cute little head.

It Never Ends

So I’m sitting here, and guess what. I am sick again. I woke up with yet another sore throat yesterday morning. I’ve made up my mind and I’m set on getting my tonsils out. It is so crazy that I have gotten sick approximately five times now since Ryan has been gone. That’s what, once a month? Its just not right. I think that some of it has to do with stress, and the other part is my bacteria infested primary class. Don't get me wrong I sure do love them-- but oh my, you wouldn’t believe the filthy little hands that touch me and my stuff, the green boogers oozing out of noses and the coughs that seem directed right at my face. I have taken steps to prevent the germs and now I have a big bottle of Germ-X that gets squirted on every little hand that enters my class. Alas, it has shown no signs of working. They are just too darn germy.
Any suggestions on staying healthy through the cold winter months and cute little kid germs? My mom swears by Airborne and the Netty Pot, but any other remedies are welcome!

A Few of my Favorite Things

Fall is hands down my absolute favorite season of the year. There are so many fun things to do and so many beautiful colors to see! We truly live in a beautiful world. This year has been an especially great fall, and I hope it lasts just a little longer! It makes walking around that SLCC campus a little more enjoyable.

I went to witches night out last Friday night and it was spooktacular (ha ha). I love the ladies who invite me to go, and I don't ever want to miss it! It was very nice this year being able to actually move around and sit down to eat at Gardner Village. Oh how I love that place! Especially this time of year. It's very entertaining to go and see all of the fun costumes, and hear Halloween music and of course cackling-(I'm working on my cackle). There is actually a stage that you can go dance on with fellow witches and I hope next year we all get the courage to try that one out!

So tonight I had this brilliant idea. Thinking I would be doing my dad a favor, I told all the little dudes to come help me rake the leaves in my yard. Well to make a long story short I think we made a bigger mess! But hey, we made some memories and that's all that counts right?

I hope you all have a fabulous fall and a happy Halloween!

Spokane!

Spokane was so wonderful! We left last Friday morning and stayed until Tuesday morning. It was snowy on the way up, and really cold the whole time we were there! ( I guess it wasn't much better in Utah!) Isabelle was baptized and confirmed which was SO awesome to be there for. I didn't see ryan, but my parents did! They were on their way to drop a package off on his doorstep and ... along came Elder Penman riding up a hill on his bike! He gave them both a hug and they were able to talk for about 15 minutes. They said he was glowing with happiness and he was the epitome of a great missionary. :) It was really weird to see pictures right after my parents saw him and talked to him. We were only about 35 minutes away! I did go exploring with my mom and found the mission office and a church sign Ryan had sent me a picture of. I had a wonderful trip and made some great memories with my brother and his family!

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Mysterious and Magical

Meet the "magical fruit" Kaleb and Cameron found in my backyard on Sunday. It's not a fruit, but it may be magical. This big ole' banana squash grew up and over the the fence from the neighbor's garden! Cass and I told them that if they kissed it they could be magical too. Kaleb liked kissing it a little too much. What great aunts we are! Now...I dare you to guess what mysterious fruit this is!

This is a banana that was found on the back seat of the suburban. I can't believe I touched it.

What the!?

We just fed the missionaries dinner at my house. Get this, one of them left the toilet seat up. I've never had to deal with this my whole life. It freaked me out. That is all.

P.S. No offense to the missionaries themselves... they were real nice.

The Amazing Half Cat Half Chicken!

Since it is finally October I thought it would be appropriate to show a sneak peak at Harriet's Halloween costume. I found it at Target and could not resist. She doesn't appreciate it as much as I do, but oh well. She really is a chicken too, so it fits her nicely.

A Wonderful Weekend

This weekend was great! My grandparents came down from St. George, I met Ryan's "daddy" Elder Clyde, and I went to a Highland High football game on Friday night.

I always love having my grandparents come down because they keep me company. It was a short visit, but great to see them! My poor little grandpa is in the process of getting teeth implants so we had a lot of soft food hangin around here for him. I can't wait until the whole process is done and he can be back to normal!

So after work on Friday I met Elder... I mean David Clyde! He was going to a wedding in West Jordan so we met at Ryan's parents house. It was really fun to talk to him and know that he was just with Elder Penman. He was a really nice guy, and he brought Sheila and I flowers and kissables from Ryan. It was very cute. I would have included a picture of meeting him, but I think that would have most likely freaked him out too much...Haha.

Friday night after I met Mr. Clyde I tagged along with Sheila and James and went to Highland Highs football game. For those of you that don't know, Ryan's dad is one of Highland's coaches and James films the games. It wasn't a very close game, Highland killed them! But it was fun to hang out with Sheila and hold Eva. It got kinda chilly about half-time and we knew highland was going to win so we just took off. Eva was such a good sport in the cold! We wrapped her snugly in a blanket but she wanted to be free so bad. I wish I would have brought my camera to take a picture of her!

Memory Monday- Spokane 2007

Since the infamous trip to Spokane is coming up soon, I thought I'd post some pictures of last years trip. Its always so much fun to go up and see my brother and his family! Last year we spent a lot of time on lake Coeur d'Alene, and its absolutely beautiful there. There's a restaurant right on the lake called Dockside, and my sister in law Jane's parents took us on a boat ride there. We rented a sweet red car to drive up and it was the first year with just me and my parents and that was fun but also kinda sad without Cass! So other than the 12 hour car ride which made me go a little crazy, I had a great time. This year Izzy is getting baptized and I'm glad I get to be there for that! It is also going to be pretty distressing knowing Elder Penman is only 25 minutes away from me! Ah!

Boredom Claims Another Victim

I'll probably regret posting these pictures later but I cannot help myself. They are pretty funny. I copied this from another blog, and its yearbookyourself.com. This is Ryan in 1976 and me in 1985!

Just a Little Update

I thought I should maybe make another post on whats going on right now in my life because it seems like its been a while!

Well where do I start... I am enjoying my time at Great Harvest, its still kinda new but I'm getting used to it. I usually slice/bag bread, make frosting and work at the counter. It is so fun to be able to take home bread at the end of the night and give it away to people! I love it. I also see lots of people I know each day so that is awesome! However, I'm going to start watching what I eat because its just too tempting and I eat a lot!

I'm still going to school at SLCC , and I'm not taking too many hard classes which is nice! I'm taking an aerobic/step class, children's literature, math for elementary teachers, and Mexican American culture. Hopefully my aerobics class will balance out how much bread I'm consuming daily.

This weekend we are taking care of my sister Meri's kids Brynlee and Kaleb. They are so freakin cute its not even funny. Bryn just toddles around jabbering in her own language, and Kaleb is satisfied punching holes in a paper and watching spiderman. Kaleb is the only person who enjoys my car, and I am fortunate to have that one person! Every time I get him buckled in his carseat he says, "this is a real fast car huh Shanni." I don't know where he gets this idea that sea foam is fast, and I am not a fast driver trust me. Especially not with precious cargo! But it may be because the windows have to be rolled down and wind rushing through the car makes it seem "fast."

Last night I went to Grandma Penman's house with Sheila to scrapbook and it was fun! I am starting a scrapbook of Ryan's mission, and hopefully I can make some cute pages. I am using lots of stuff that I inherited, thank you Tammy and Brandy!! If anyone wants to help me just let me know! All offers are welcome! I figure if I keep up to date with all of the pictures Ryan sends it won't be too hard to manage, right?

Okay, well that is pretty much all I can think of at this moment. Of course I had to post a picture of the two felines. No I'm not a crazy cat lady Jared! They are just cute.

No I Am Not a Crazy Cat Lady!

So this is Harriot's favorite game to play. As you can see she is in the bath tub, and she will wait patiently there and meow for me to come play. This usually takes place when I'm doing my hair and makeup, and its just too funny. Its also very scary because you never know when she will attack the shower curtain! Often she will jump so high that she falls through the curtain and onto the floor which she demonstrates so nicely in this video.

My Red Hatter Grandmas

On Wednesday afternoon I went to a Red Hat Society fashion show where my Grandma Addie, Ryan's Grandma Lorraine and some other ladies modeled clothes from the Dress Barn. For those of you who don't know, Addie and Lorraine live right across from each other in a senior community. The crazy thing is they both moved there AFTER Ryan and I met. They've become great friends and its so fun to have two grandmas so close. It was so fun to see them in all of their cute clothes! They did a fabulous job, and I'm glad I was able to go! I have been wanting a picture of my them in their red hats, so I jumped on this opportunity. I know many of you will appreciate these pictures, and I cannot wait to send them to Ryan! He'll be jealous he couldn't have been there!

Memory Monday

My first step onto California sand

It was still a little cold in March!

Feeding this hungry seal!

Beautiful Sunset
Aren't these guys adorable?

I will never forget going on tour with Concert Choir when I was a senior. We went to San Diego, California and it was so exciting because it was my first time going there! We drove on a bus all through the night which was a little crazy. We arrived at San Diego in the early morning, stopped to have breakfast and went straight to the zoo! We were all really tired but it was so fun. We stayed in a really nice hotel ( I can't remember the name) but my roommates and I had a California king in our room and we all fit and slept on it comfortably most of the nights! We did some singing (of course) and went to Sea World and on a dinner cruise. It was such a fun adventure!

The Saddest Day

Thursday is usually a happy day for me. On second thought, its probably the best day out of the whole week because I get to hear from Elder Ryan John. So since today was letter day, and I didn't have to work I really set the bar high for a great day. However, today didn't happen the way I planned. It was a no good very bad day and the reason is because I didn't get a letter. Yes, its true. The mail has taken on a whole new meaning ever since Ryan left. Seriously. I have basically a love/hate relationship with the mailman. If he brings a letter I adore him! If he doesn't bring a letter I loathe him. So today, I loathe the mailman and if he doesn't bring a letter tomorrow he better watch out.

Sunday, July 27, 2008

Well I finally made a blog just for me! As some of you know I made a blog for Ryan so people can read up on how he's doing on his mission. Sometimes I feel like I make his too girly, so I decided to make one for me so I could do whatever I wanted to it! Hopefully I can keep up with posting, but I guess you never know when life is going to get busy. I will try to keep things current!

I just got a new job at Great Harvest and I'm so excited to start working there! I am still working at good ole' Utah Idaho Supply for about two more weeks, and I actually think I'll miss it! I've worked there for almost two years, which is crazy because it doesn't seem like I've been there that long. Great Harvest will be a great change, and I'm looking forward to meeting new people and learning new fun things. Plus, who doesn't love free bread??

Ryan is doing great, (as you can tell from his letters) and I got my very first tape from him last Friday!! Sorry but I'm not an expert at blogging, therefore I cannot post an audio clip of his tape. I would if I could though. He sounds a lot different, but he sounds really happy! It makes it easier for me to know that he is having success and loves it there. Elder Clyde comes home around August 25th, and I hope Ryan gets another companion as good as he was!

This concludes my very first post on my very own blog!
